| Over Ground Magazine, Review by Todd Russell - If Man Is Five, Azraela 4 Peice ( with 3 women upfront) indie goth-metal with a hint of grunge-pop/ emo, straight outta Binghamton. If the synopsis i've offered is too convoluted, then I dare you to do better. The constant is Angela's vocal prowess, which is the epicenter of this band's hook. Angela's killer voice aside, go ahead and expect the unexpected. Soft sparse, haunting and melodic one moment, blown-out metal with bright, distroted guitar lines and grarly, nasty drum-fills the next, "Azraela" will keep you on the edge throughout. Hole meets Black Sabbath meets No Doubt's older, heavier [stuff] (except that Angela's talnet punks that of tabloid-favorite Courtney Love's in short order) could be offered as a brief description, in irresponsibly-broad strokes. Evan's percussion chops and backing vocals round it out nicely, adding a metal edge and lots of energy. |
